Candidate Burton is in TOWN!

Hi all:

Foregoing lunch today in favor of hanging out and eating greasy hamburgers with Matt Burton, recently returned from Air Force Officer Candidate School!

See you at the Sink at noon!

Let it snow!!!

With all this terrific snow, I thought I'd forego my trail shoes in favor of my cross country skis! Let's convoy (ie, drive) up to Chautauqua, meeting at the North side of the HUMN building, for an hour of twilight skiing!

Flagstaff Ascent

Well you can't tell by looking out the window, but the weather forecasters are calling for snow and high winds by noon. Let's do something sheltered from the wind that's sure to warm the soul--climb flagstaff anyone? Meet at the South side of Humanities at noon if you're interested!

No Way!

I started this blog so that during the warmer months I'd have a place to rally folks to join me on my runs. Well, today I'm using it to rally folks to join me on a ride up Flagstaff Road! Meet at the Telecom building at 12:10--we'll depart from there!

Hey faithful readers--

I'll be joining Brian Kent in just a few quick minutes to tackle Mt. Sanitas--a fine snowy run if ever there were one!

Meet at Noon on the north side of Humanities.

Finally!

Hey Fearless Furons:

Some crazy sinus infection had me down for the count for nearly two weeks now! However, today I'm feeling like giving it another shot, despite the heaps of snow falling from the sky! The flagstaff minions are heading up the canyon trail today--I'll try to chase them down, leaving from the ATLAS building at about 12:20.

See you out there ;)

Allied assignment!

It gets lonely, running by myself all the time (well, I'm rarely alone, but Caili rarely has much to say on our runs), so today I'm going to team up with the folks at Flagstaff Frenzy today and run Anemone. See the Flagstaff Frenzy site for more information.

Night run, anyone?

Tonight I'll be hitting the flats out in Gunbarrel... anyone up for a night run by headlamp? By all means, let me know. We'll convene around 6:30 if you're interested. Meanwhile, I'll be at yoga today from 1:30-2:30. Have a great day--the snow looks like it'll be flying by noon!

Rob in the Mud

A little muddy fun!

MUDDY day for a run!

Me and my faithful furry sidekick Caili took to the trails over lunch today--we headed up Skunk Canyon, where we encountered mud and ice galore. It was a chilly crash-course adventure in making adobe soles for my trail shoes. Once we crested the top of the canyon at the Mesa Trail, we found a new challenge--slick snow and ice on all the north-facing slopes. The run down to Enchanted Mesa was a little nicer, and Kohler was just fine, but I was wishing for some cramp-ons or my trusty yak-trax. Finally, Four Pines trail from the mesa down to 16th street was slick with mud--but welcome after the ice on the Mesa trail! Hopefully it will snow tomorrow, and make those trails a little more manageable!

Thanksgiving in the West

Well it was a long, fun weekend. Maria & I headed to Copper on Thanksgiving Day to check out the man-made snow, which, though sparse and icy, was better than nothing. It was the perfect first day of the season. Not too crowded, not too icy, and we skied just long enough to feel the loving burn in the legs that tele skiing gives you.

From Copper we booked west to Grand Junction, where we spent the next few days sampling the mountain biking and sights of Fruita, Grand Mesa, and the Bookcliffs.

Check out pics from the trip by clicking below:

Thanksgiving Trip

Today I'll be recovering from the weekend's madness through yoga.  I read this weekend that the average female-to-male ratio in yoga classes is 20 to 1.  Not a bad way to spend lunch... :P

Go West, young man!

Hi faithful readers:

With the snow flying and the university empty today, I'm dreaming of the road trip we'll be taking tomorrow. First to Copper Mountain for some early season telemark skiing, then on to Grand Junction and Fruita for a little laid-back mountain biking. It's supposed to be cold out there, mid-forties to low-fifties, but considering the forecast here in Boulder, that sounds downright balmy. Meanwhile, check out this excellent video of an exemplary Grand Junction mountain bike trail:

See you next week!

Easy run today!

Today's run was nothing but chilly! The temperature seemed to drop by a degree for every ten feet of elevation gained, running up the old favorite, Flagstaff Mountain. I saw two brave hikers near the top, but otherwise the trail was deserted. An excellent way to pass the lunch hour!

Eagle Trail Ride

Hey Fevered Folks:

Hideo from PC Maintenance has reluctantly agreed to try his had at mountain biking again, so I thought I'd take him up the Eagle Trail in North Boulder. We'll meet at Stadium Gate 6 at 11:45!

Flagstaff Frenzy ride

Hey Flatirons Fevered Folks:

Due to meetings out at Polycom headquarters running long, I didn't make it back in time for the Flagstaff Frenz ride. Nevertheless, when we finally made it back to campus, Julian and I headed out for a quick jaunt up Flagstaff Road. Riding his full-suspension mountain bike, and complaining of respiratory complications, Julian had the best of me. I found him leisurely practicing yoga in the turnout for the Flagstaff Summit Road when I reached the top. The ride was made all the more interesting by a temperature inversion--the top was nearly 10 degrees warmer than the bottom.

Tomorrow I've got the day off, so ride where you like!

Run with Brian!

Hello, Fevered Readers:

I won't be running today, but Brian Kent will be departing the Stadium at 12:00 noon to meander the well-worn trails near Chautauqa Park. So, go put on your trail shoes and see if you can catch him! Meanwhile, I'll be joining the limber ladies and lads of Francesca's intermediate yoga class over at the CU Recreation Center... Also be sure to check out the Flagstaff Frenzy blog for more activities!

Dakota Ridge Run

Went out late today, about 1:10, because some business at work kept us busy 'til then. Caili was in attendance, and we took the usual route through campus, up the Pleasant/University Alley, to the trailhead at 4th and University. From there we took a rolling route to Eben G Fine Park, under Canyon, up and around the Red Rocks formation, to the Sanitas Valley trailhead. Up Dakota ridge from there, to the second bailout point, where time and the nagging feeling I'd forgotten something at work turned us around. It was a quick return to campus, via the same route (more or less!). Weather was beautiful, with temperatures in the low 70's--not bad for mid-November!

Tomorrow is a rest day, so we'll see you in yoga class.
